Which is a vital global trade route

An incident where two Suez Canal ships collided occurred on Monday, Sept. 29 at the northern end of Egypt's Suez Canal. The moment the two Suez Canal container ships collided, traffic was delayed throughout the area which is a vital global trade route, said shipping sources yesterday.

An amateur video was able to capture the moment as the two Suez Canal ships collided at the mouth of the canal in Egypt, reports the Telegraph.

Sources identified the ships that smashed into each other as the German-flagged MV Colombo Express and the Singaporean flagged MV Maersk Tanjong, reports euronews.

After the two Suez Canal ships collided at the mouth of the canal, three containers from the Colombo Express were knocked over into the sea, hence leaving a large dent to the vessel, sources added.

According to the Daily Mail, as the Suez Canal ships collided into each other; authorities expected the traffic to be delayed in both directions of the canal.

"The incident has severely interrupted the second southbound convoy and the northbound convoy is therefore expected to be delayed," Agents Inchape Shipping Services stated shortly after the Suez Canal ships collided.
